Founder of Deformat Records | Breakcore & Hardcore Producer
John Merrik is the relentless force behind Deformat Records, an underground label born from raw passion and DIY ethos. Originally just a stamp on the CDs and tapes he passed around in the mid-2000s, Deformat became an outlet for his boundary-pushing productions—spanning breakcore, speedcore, gabber, noise, and beyond.
Merrik’s journey into the hardcore underground started with gabber, spinning relentless 200+ BPM tracks at raves where his extreme sound often set him apart. While most of the scene gravitated toward more accessible beats, he dug deeper into the extreme, eventually discovering Deathchant Records—a moment that changed everything. The label’s early breakcore releases ignited a fire, shaping his approach to production and still echoing through his music today.
John Merrik had solidified himself as a key name in the underground hardcore scene with his creation of Ihatebreakcore. The once active community spread from slsk and was created for a forum with a lack of censorship. Something that truly embraced breakcore in its true form.
He is, however back, and once again waving the Deformat banner. His mission remains the same: to break sound barriers and push hardcore/breakcore to its absolute limits.
